Rain Tests Restoration...
The Rye Museum Association is a charity which operates two accredited museums situated in Rye, East Sussex. The RCM Ypres Tower and RCM in East Street are just a short walk apart and the exhibits tell the stories of the history of Rye, its inhabitants and the surrounding area.
The RCM East Street also happens to have had a recent makeover courtesy of us here at Heritage Decorating – the doors themselves are well worth a visit!
The big doors you see in our images were installed in the mid 1800’s when the former lower floor house front was removed to give easy access to the factory.
The iron work is much older- c. 1760’s – and was brought round from alongside a staircase at the rear of 101 High Street c. 1880 / 90 and fitted into the doors. We aren’t sure if this was the original position or if it had been moved earlier.

Restoration of Museum Doors…
As with all of our work, there is not a single inch left untouched and unloved. Preparation and attention to detail are crucial as well as using methods which mean the work lasts for decades to come.
To the Sash Windows and Roof…
As well as the doors themselves, the sash windows and roof were also treated with our magic touch. A thorough clean of the moss on the roof, and a flush of the gutters was followed swiftly by an immense downpour – testing our work beautifully!
